Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into art!
I have always loved art and decided to take the plunge as a full-time artist 8 years ago. I am a very sentimental person, so creating personal, customised art is very important to me. I was never sporty as a child but instead was involved in anything creative. Today I love digital art and airbrushing the most. I am a also a bit of tech geek and love anything involved with tech and art. I combine digital art and acrylic paint on plexiglass to produce vibrant pieces that combine design, abstract pop art and graffiti as well as originals on canvas, wood or metal.
How would you describe the art you love creating?
The art I Iove creating, is playful, fun and colorful. I am slightly obsessed with Japanese art, and the cute Kawaai characters. I also love design and incorporating words and symbolic images which mean a lot to me.
What influences your artistic vision and style?
I have always been inspired by cute, kawaai characters, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Harring, Takashi Murakami. I have a love for design, collage and combining tradition art with digital art. I enjoy experimenting and always pushing harder to improve.
My goal is to bring joy and smiles to peoples homes by adding color and fun artworks.
Are there any present-day artists whose creations resonate with you and that you find particularly compelling?
There are so many, I love art so much and have actually started my own art collection and have really cool pieces from, Patrick Rubenstein, Sophie Tea, KAWS, Bruster, TOKIDOKI, The naked Cuber and many more. I am hoping to get a Takashi Murakami next.
Among the various materials you engage with, which one do you find the most fulfilling to work with, and what draws you to it?
I love digital drawing because its mess free, but I also enjoy screen printing and airbrushing.
Can you walk us through your artistic process, starting from the initial spark of an idea to the realisation of the finished artwork?
The ideas usually take place when Im driving or running, when I cant write them down. I get very excited and act quickly, because I know once you procrastinate its not going to be created. I usually then look for the images I visualised and find the images that look closest to what I wanted to create. I like to spoil myself every second week with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, then photograph the flowers and add in all my cute characters and words.
For original pieces I complete the look with a resin over the canvas, for the metal artworks I complete the work with puff paint technique.
Could you share some insights into your current creative endeavours and projects?
I have some exciting top-secret projects in the works and will be launching something new and thrilling soon. Also, keep an eye out for my art showcase at the YOU&I Art Gallery in Cape Town, Sea Point this May!
