Tell us a bit about yourself and how you got into art!
Art has been an integral part of my life since childhood, providing me with a perpetual youthful perspective that fuels my dreams and keeps my imagination alive. While I once piloted Boeing 747-400 aircraft, my career was derailed by a brain tumor and medical setbacks. My journey through various facets of aviation yielded little fulfilment. However, when I engage in the act of creation, time ceases to exist, and it feels as natural as breathing. It’s akin to a powerful drug, an incessant drive to create and innovate, with ideas flowing every day. Sharing my art with others is a profoundly gratifying experience, knowing that my creations touch and enrich the lives of those who appreciate them.
How would you describe the art you love creating?
I don’t adhere to a specific art style; my creations range from contemporary to surrealism and pop art, among others. I believe that limiting myself to one style wouldn’t do justice to my diverse imagination, which is in a constant state of evolution. I don’t pre-plan my art; I create it first and then seek its meaning, allowing my artistic process to be spontaneous and guided by intuition.
What influences your artistic vision and style?
Artist: My artistic style and vision are highly eclectic, drawing inspiration from a wide range of influences. I find inspiration in the Renaissance and Baroque periods, which I strive to modernize in my work. Additionally, Pop Art provides me with the freedom to express my inner child, allowing for a playful and contemporary twist on traditional inspirations.
Are there any present-day artists whose creations resonate with you and that you find particularly compelling?
Erik Johannsen, Nick Pederson, Natacha Einat, and Carles Marsal are artists whose work I find particularly compelling and inspiring in the present day.
Among the various materials you engage with, which one do you find the most fulfilling to work with, and what draws you to it?
I firmly believe that every artist possesses unique strengths and skills for self-expression. My own strengths lie in digital art, particularly in the art of photomontage. This technique involves combining various separate elements to bring my creative vision to life, utilising blending, lighting, composition, and overall aesthetics. To enhance my art, I incorporate animation through the Artivive app, which adds depth and a deeper understanding to my creations.
Can you walk us through your artistic process, starting from the initial spark of an idea to the actualisation of the finished artwork?
My artistic process begins with a spontaneous spark of inspiration, often striking at any moment of the day or night, triggered by various sources, including images. I embark on the creative journey without rigidly planning the layout or subject, allowing my imagination to guide my hand, giving birth to my vision organically.
Could you share some insights into your current creative endeavours and projects?
My current creative endeavours are a dynamic and spontaneous process, with inspiration striking at unexpected moments. I continuously explore innovative ways to introduce a ‘wow’ factor into my work, experimenting with various shapes and mediums. Lately, I’ve been actively engaged in commissioned projects for both hotels and individuals, tailoring my art to their unique visions.
One of the most exciting developments in my artistic journey is winning the 2023 Photopia and Artivive International artist competition. It’s an immense honour and a deeply humbling experience to have my work showcased in Hamburg, Germany, on an international platform. This recognition fuels my passion and encourages me to push the boundaries of my creative expression further.
