I am a lifelong artist, and started my creative journey painting watercolour landscapes in my spare time. I had formal training in fashion design which laid the foundation for a successful career as a freelance textile designer in the mid-80s and 90’s in Kwa-Zulu Natal. I became well known for my intricate botanical and floral textile design work and garnered a fair amount of success. The Edgars retail chain designed a limited collection of women’s clothing one season from one of my rose textiles. I often think this moment in time captured the essence of my future passion: combining the human figure with textiles and floral patterns.
In 1999, a move to Cape Town ignited a passion for oil painting and I fell in love with the medium. I began exploring figure work, nearly always working on ways to incorporate fabrics and pattern with my figures. I have been painting in oils ever since and continue my exploration and passion of the figure.
