From desolated landscapes that capture the raw beauty of the land, to swirling seascapes, vibrant florals, and striking portraits of my beloved cows and bulls—my art has always been rooted in a deep reverence for God’s magnificent creation, a drive to end animal cruelty, and a longing to inspire hope.

About the Artist

Growing up on a farm sowed the seeds of the many memories I carry with me. I fell in love with the natural, quiet beauty of the land and the gentle souls of the animals that call it home.

My cattle paintings lie especially close to my heart. Having grown up with dairy cows, I was deeply moved by their loving temperaments and remarkable intelligence. Over the years, I began studying cattle breeds from around the world and felt a growing need to reveal the hidden beauty of these animals—to create awareness about the inhumane and often brutal practices in the meat and dairy industries.

I’ve become particularly passionate about the Ankole cattle and its sister breed, the Watusi—both known for their striking, massive horns that can span up to eight feet. With roots that trace back to ancient Egypt, these are among Africa’s oldest Sanga cattle breeds. Named after the Ankole people of Uganda and the Tutsi people of Rwanda and Burundi, these animals are part of a rich cultural heritage. Through generations of skilled herding, four distinct Ankole Watusi strains have developed, each unique to their regions. These cattle are not only able to survive in harsh African climates, but they also continue to play vital roles in the lives and wealth of the people who raise them. In some communities, they are even considered sacred. Sadly, the Ankole is now on the brink of extinction in its native Uganda, hunted for their uniquely shaped horns that are highly prized as decorative items.

Through my portraits, I invite viewers to come closer—to see these cows and bulls not just as animals, but as beings with magnificent beauty, gentle spirits, and roles as mothers, fathers, and protectors.

My work is a reflection of hope, courage, and joy, expressed through rich textures and nuanced colour—ranging from soft and delicate to bold and energetic.

I enjoy working on both large and small canvases, using the richness of oil pigments to bring my subjects to life.

In 2016, I left my career in the pharmaceutical industry to pursue my love for art full-time. I am a self-taught painter and have participated in numerous group exhibitions. My work is currently represented by galleries in Cape Town, Paarl, Bellville, and Noordhoek. I live and work in Durbanville, South Africa.
