Kewpie Love Selfie
The Kewpie cartoon character was created by Rose Cecil O’Neil, a American cartoonist, illustrator, artist and writer in 1909. Until Micky Mouse, Kewpie was the most widely recognised cartoon character. The Kewpie Doll was first manufactured in 1912 by the German toy company J.D. Kester and later this little open armed doll became considered to be one the first mass-marketed toys in the United States.
A not so serious piece to end a serious year. A year that brought so much calamity, but also brought so much positive reinvention and positive change to our world. With some “new normal” icons all around it, Kewpie stands open armed ready to embrace the future with LOVE and with a BANG!
My graphic pop artwork is rooted in technology, borrowing a variety of contradictory visual imagery (such as stickers, comic strips, social media icons). Through various digital processes, I manipulate, paint and layer these images in, behind and around a portrait, to create a whole new mixed media digital artwork.
All art is packaged professionnally in boxes or cardboard packaging.
